We are a part of a larger denomination with a rich heritage of the practical study of theology (that just means words about God). Because of that we engage one another often on theological issues and we are not afraid to disagree on some issues.

John Wesley, one of the founders of the United Methodist church, felt it was important to hold "essential beliefs" in common and also felt that in "non-essential beliefs" we should be careful not to let our views on something become an idol -- obscuring the presence of the One God who loves us.

The beliefs shown below have come from work that our particular congregation within the United Methodist church holds dear. If you want to find out more about the United Methodist Church and what we believe in common please feel free to go to www.umc.org.

Here are the beliefs that seem particularly important to our congregation:

  • We believe in one God -- Creator, Son, and Holy Spirit.
  • We believe that all that God created has worth.
  • We believe that we are made for a purpose.
  • We believe that God loves us just as we are -- and far too much to leave us there.

Of course -- within these four core beliefs there is a LOT of information implied. For instance -- we say we believe in one God -- Creator, Son, and Holy Spirit. And we know that, for us, that means that we see God as the author and perfector of all life. We see Jesus the Son as God's only Son, and our Savior. And we see the Holy Spirit as the active agent of our lives working in us to help us live into good works, which God has created to be our way of life (see Ephesians).

We would love to talk to you more about our beliefs. Feel free to e-mail us at "therockumc@austin.rr.com". Or simply show up to worship at 1901 W. New Hope Dr in Cedar Park at 11am on Sunday mornings.
