 A building is where church goes to get out of the rain. We are a church -- the people of The Rock UMC. And for years we have been worshiping at Running Brushy Middle School located at 2303 N. Lakeline Blvd. We have been grateful to have this place to get out of the rain. But as we worshiped God and focused on God's call and claim on our lives we came to realize that part of our call was to be a real and permanent part of this community in Cedar Park/Leander. So, after prayer and hard work, in 2002 we purchased property at 1901 W. New Hope Road. In late 2003 we moved our offices into the limestone house on the property. In 2003 and 2004 we prayerfully and carefully cleared the land to make space for our first building. We also poured a foundation in 2004,put up the shell of a building in 2004, and installed a cross at the front of our property. The cross was a gift from our neighbors down the street: St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. In 2005 we worked on continuing to clear our property and began collecting materials for interior construction. We were able to get donations from several members of our community -- salvaging useful things that may otherwise have ended up in a landfill. In 2006 Bethany United Methodist Church purchased part of our property. They purchased a small tract of our land not because they needed more property on our street but because they wanted to help us move into our own building. That sale has provided the funds that we need to finish out our first building. That will allow us to become a permanent part of our community and allow us to start opening our building to other organizations in our area, and to start ministries that will benefit our whole community. We anticipate that by the first quarter of 2007 we will be worshiping at our location at 1901 W. New Hope Road. We hope to see you there. |
