Right now our community is studying the Gospel of Mark. Mark's Gospel is short and to the point. Some call it the "Dragnet" version of the Gospel ("just the facts ma'am"). The study is on Tuesday nights from 7-8 on the porch of our new building located at 1901 W. New Hope Road and the same study is repeated on Wednesday afternoons from 1:30-2:30 at the church office located in the limestone house at 1901 W. New Hope Road. The study is open to everyone -- you don't need to be a member at The Rock UMC to attend. In addition, a small group will be starting a study of the book "Extraordinary Relationships" by Dr. Roberta Gilbert. This book focuses on the "family systems theory" of relationships originally proposed by Dr. Murray Bowen. The theory says that instead of focusing on individual humans as previous psychiatric theories did - perhaps we should be more mindful of the impact that our familial relationships have on our functioning. Many of us have read the book and we will meet on Thursday, January 25th at the home of Randy and Liz Bila to talk about the book. If you'd like directions to the meeting please contact us at: "TheRockUMC@austin.rr.com." |
