Welcome to the new Tech Team web site area.

Note: the current wiki page is being replaced by WordPress. Please give it a try. This page will be left here until we've had a chance to verify our IDs and password are working correctly.

This area will be updated to include information about technical activities at The Rock and how you can help out if you feel so moved.

Please note that there are a lot of ways that you can contribute to the tech team that do not involve being a programmer. For example, we need different sorts of folks to simply look at our web site and provide feedback. Often things that programmers do can be completely baffling to non-programmers (I know, you probably find this shocking :-)

If you are interested in helping out, please send an email to TechTeam@TheRockUMC.org.

Please indicate if you would like to be included in the TechTeam email distribution list, and if you are ok with having your name and/or contact information posted on this site.

Note: A new WordPress blog area has been created at http://www.therockumc.org/blog. There are currently no links to this area, since it is just a test area at this point. This means that you'll need to type the address to it in your browser to access it, or click the above link from this page.

Some questions for discussion:

  1. Should we make all or part of the area password protected?
    • I have placed a password on the TechTeam area. This includes the contact list page but does not include this page. You will need to contact Ron to obtain the password. This page is in the Main area, so can be read without entering a password. If a new page is created in the TechTeam area, then it will require the password in order to even view it. If it is created in the Main area like this page, then it will not require a password.
  2. Should we implement a web based forum, or rely on email? Suggestions?
    • I have created the TechTeam email distribution list. Any emails send to TechTeam@TheRockUMC.org will be forwarded to everyone on that list. Please send a note to that list if you believe that you should be included in the list, and/or are not receiving emails from it.
    • I think we need a blog area. I am in the process of creating this using WordPress as mentioned above. Currently it links to the test blog I setup in my personal area, but this should be fixed later this weekend.
  3. Upcoming Classes
I am thinking about holding some classes to teach folks about some of the technical things that we have been doing. I'd like your feedback on what classes you are interested in, and your suggestions. Some examples that I've though of are:
    • Our Web Wiki (PmWiki)
We use a Wiki to manage most of our web site's content. This allows anyone with basic typing skills to learn how to help update the site. The particular wiki we are using is called PmWiki. I believe that a 1 hour class would provide the basic information needed to begin adding or editing content to our web site.
    • Web Site Administration
This would be a very technical presentation for web programmers on how our site is administered.
    • Web Site Brainstorming
I'd like to hold a discussion with our artistic folks to talk about future direction for our site. This would not be a technical discussion, although I'll apologize now because I probably won't be able to refrain from mentioning words like "Flash Animation" and "Server Side Scripting". You will not need to know what any of those things are.
